2026 Annual Point-in-Time Count

Itasca County, along with five counties in the Northeast Minnesota, will be participating in the Annual Point-in-Time Homeless Count (PIT Count) the night of Wednesday January 28, 2026.

This project brings together a collaborative network of local organizations, community groups, and public service agencies working to provide direct and indirect support to people experiencing homelessness. Volunteers will be surveying people who are in the following living situations on the night of January 28.

  • Sleeping outside
  • Staying in a shelter or emergency housing
  • Staying in a hotel or motel paid for by an agency, program, or church organization
  • Living in a vehicle, tent, camper, RV (with no hook ups), or abandoned building
  • Living in a trailer, barn, shed or garage on a relative’s or friend’s property
  • Living in home with no working utilities
  • Temporarily living with relatives, friends, or others, or couch-surfing

Community partners and volunteers are needed to support PIT Week by helping identify areas where unsheltered individuals may be staying and encouraging unsheltered or doubled-up households to connect with local homeless programs and complete surveys. Volunteers may also assist by conducting surveys in welcoming settings such as community meals, resource events, or drop-in centers, when appropriate. In addition, support is needed to help provide basic comfort items—like hats, gloves, hand warmers, snacks, and water—to individuals during PIT Week.

For those interested in participating, a virtual PIT training will take place from 10:00am - 11:30am on Friday, January 16, 2026. If you are unabvle to make that training, it will also be recorded.

Please express interest below and a member of our team will reach out with further details.
