DIY Kit: Fun with Learning

Help local families and children have fun while staying safe at home by creating a Fun with Learning kit! These kits are designed to address learning gaps created by school closures, to give children a chance to have fun while learning at home. This is a great pop-up project for a group, but can also be completed by individuals. Completed care kits will be distributed to children and families through United Way's network of nonprofit partners. Steps 1. Gather Supplies: See below for a list of suggested supplies. You may want to host a drive first, to gather supplies. 2. Pack Kits: Have a packing party, set up an assembly line in your break room, or pack items at home. Place items into cardboard boxes or plastic bins, making sure that each bin contains at least five items. You may want to put a tag on the box that indicates what age group and, if applicable, gender the box is intended for. Take pictures of your efforts and share on social media with #LiveUnited and #ItascaStrong. 3. Deliver Your Kits: Contact United Way at 218-999-7570 or email info@uwlakes.org to arrange for kit pickup or delivery. Supplies: Plastic Bin or Cardboard Box Coloring books Educational workbooks Childrens' books Art supplies Board games Playing cards STEM learning kits Building toys (building blocks, Legos, etc.) Flash cards If you need help arranging a packing party, finding out where to purchase items, or need labeling materials, let us know by expressing interest so that United Way can help coordinate your project.

Cards of Kindness

Brighten someone's day by writing a note of encouragement! Making a kindness card is an easy way to impact someone's life and combat isolation and loneliness. Making kindness cards is a great pop-up volunteering opportunity, but can also be completed at home. Contact United Way to receive materials for cards, or make your own! Cards can be written for a specific demographic, such as school children or older adults, or be written more in general. Cards of Kindness can be distributed to people or through agencies or community organizations. If you need United Way to distribute cards, let us know - we'll distribute them to children and adults in need throughout the community.
