DIY Kit: Fun with Learning

Help local families and children have fun while staying safe at home by creating a Fun with Learning kit! These kits are designed to address learning gaps created by school closures, to give children a chance to have fun while learning at home. This is a great pop-up project for a group, but can also be completed by individuals. Completed care kits will be distributed to children and families through United Way's network of nonprofit partners. Steps 1. Gather Supplies: See below for a list of suggested supplies. You may want to host a drive first, to gather supplies. 2. Pack Kits: Have a packing party, set up an assembly line in your break room, or pack items at home. Place items into cardboard boxes or plastic bins, making sure that each bin contains at least five items. You may want to put a tag on the box that indicates what age group and, if applicable, gender the box is intended for. Take pictures of your efforts and share on social media with #LiveUnited and #ItascaStrong. 3. Deliver Your Kits: Contact United Way at 218-999-7570 or email info@uwlakes.org to arrange for kit pickup or delivery. Pack Personal Care Packages

Help children, families, and veterans meet their basic needs by assembling personal care packages! With the economic impact of COVID-19, even more people are finding that they need to make tough choices – between buying laundry detergent and having food for breakfast, or between filling the car up with gas and buying a pair of shoes. Assembled care packages will be distributed to children, veterans, elderly, homeless and vulnerable populations throughout United Way’s service area of Itasca County and surrounding communities. Find instructions online. Items* to include: laundry detergent cleaning supplies toothbrushes toothpaste deodorant hair care products basic first aid items diapers baby wipes menstrual products towels & wash cloths *Items must be new and unopened/unused This is a great at-home or pop-up volunteering opportunity!
