Fidget Blanket Volunteer

Many patients with dementia at Grand Itasca do not have access to fidget blankets, leaving them without tools to ease restlessness and provide sensory engagement. This lack of support increases boredom and raises the risk of patients interfering with essential medical devices. Together, we can ensure that every patient receives a fidget blanket.

With the help of skilled volunteers, patients will experience greater comfort and support, bringing peace of mind to their loved ones. This meaningful contribution will enhance the quality of care and create a lasting impact. As an At-Home Sewing Volunteer, you'll receive fidget blanket materials and detailed instructions from Grand Itasca. Using your sewing machine and tools, you can create the blankets at your own pace and on a schedule that works for you—all from the comfort of your home.

Prolonged states of inactivity and under stimulation can be particularly damaging to persons in care facilities who suffer from dementia, serving to intensify the apathy, boredom, depressed mood, and loneliness that often accompany the progression of dementia. Dementia can be a challenging diagnosis, affecting patients' ability to stay engaged and calm in a medical setting.

Fidget blankets provide a meaningful way to support these patients by offering sensory stimulation that can ease anxiety and prevent interference with medical equipment. By creating fidget blankets, you can play a direct role in improving the care and comfort of those living with dementia.
