2024 Regional North Flag Football Competition for Special Olympics

Regional North Flag Football Competition 🏈at Portage Park in Cohasset, MN, on Saturday, September 14th.

Special Olympics Minnesota's Regional North Flag Football competition is being held on September 14 and we are looking for volunteers to help make the day happen! 

No flag football experience? No problem! A detailed training is given at the beginning of each shift. You're welcome to sign up for any of the following roles:

  • General Event Support: 
    • Check in and welcome athletes, teams, and volunteers.
    • Volunteers will also fill in other spots or jump in to help where needed. They may have a shorter shift than scheduled.
    • This is a great role for someone who is flexible and a self starter!
  • Football Skills Assistant:
    • Run and score one of our skills stations for athletes competing as an individual.
  • Score Table:
    • Update scores and manage time on video scoreboard.
    • Confirm rosters before games with coaches on both teams.
  • Down Marker:
    • Move the down marker indicator as the ball is moved down the field.
    • You will be on your feet for this position!
  • Awards Assistants:
    • Organize and prepare awards for athletes.
    • Announce names and places of athletes during award ceremony. 
  • Official:
    • Officiate a unified football game.
    • Should have football knowledge and comfortable making judgement calls.

This is a short event, but we still need volunteers to help make it a success! Your participation or assistance in spreading the word would be greatly appreciated. By volunteering, you'll be interacting with and helping provide individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of competitive sports in a supportive environment. 

Volunteer Expectations….

  • Volunteers must be 15 years or older to volunteer on their own.  
    • 12-14 year old volunteers are welcome when volunteering with chaperone/parent/guardian 18+.
    • Interested volunteers who are under 12 are welcomed to cheer on athletes as fans in the stands with chaperone/parent/guardian 18+.     
  • You may sign up for one or more shifts.
  • There is no smoking, alcohol consumption, or drug use by volunteers.
  • Abusive behavior toward athletes, other volunteers or staff will not be tolerated.
  • Please don't exchange personal information with any athlete.
  • Cancellations
    • If event is canceled you will be notified by email & text message.
    • Cancellation calls are made only on the morning of the event.
  • Wear
    • Comfortable clothing & shoes. 
    • Volunteer t-shirt (given when you check in).
  • Parking/Transportation
    • Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your shift starts to check in.
    • Parking is available on site.
    • Please contact us if you would like any support with other transportation options.
  • Pack
    • Any meals or snacks needed-lunch will not be provided. (Concessions will be available to purchase on site. Please contact us if this presents any hardship or prevents your ability to volunteer).
    • A water bottle.
