Learn to Ride Coach

Learn to Ride volunteers—also known as “coaches”—are at the heart of Mount Itasca’s winter programming. In this safe, fun, and supportive environment, coaches work alongside young skiers and snowboarders to build skills, boost confidence, and foster friendships on the slopes. From helping first–sixth grade participants strap into their bindings for the very first time to encouraging them as they gain confidence and control, volunteer coaches play a key role in inspiring a lifelong love of winter recreation.

The Learn to Ride program takes place each February, with sessions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00–6:00 p.m. The 2026 season kicks off on Tuesday, February 3.

As a thank-you, volunteers receive a free lift ticket for each day they are scheduled to volunteer, along with additional perks based on the number of hours served.
